Proofs of Continental Drift

Hello guys I am back with another post. This time I will tell you what are the things that have been observed worldwide which prove that the theory of continental drift is absolutely correct. In the last post I told you what are the reasons which were responsible for the continental drift. And as I promised, I am back with a new post and i will tell you the phenomena which proves that the continental drift had happened.

Alfred wegener was not able to explain the continental drift theory and also he was not able to give any proof which states that the theory of Continental Drift was true. The scientists all over the world after observing several phenomena have come to a conclusion that the theory given by Alfred Wegener was to true. The phenomenas observed were -:

Jigsaw Fit

It is observed that all the countries together seem to be like a Jigsaw puzzle. Different countries of the world act as different parts of the puzzle. When they are added collectively they form a single land mass which was initially known as Pangea.

For example, the country of Brazil can be easily fit in the African continent. Also the country of Australia can easily fit into peninsular India.

Mineral congruency

Mineral congruency has been found at several places even at two different continents.

For example, there is a river in Africa named as Congo. It is the 2nd largest river in the African subcontinent. The special thing about river Congo is that gold is found in it there are only two rivers in the world where gold is found first one is of course the Congo river and second one is Son river in India.

But interestingly enough gold is found in Congo even when there are no gold deposits at the initial point or any other point of the river. But the gold deposits are present in the country of Brazil. This shows that there was a time when Brazil was a part of Africa and they both were joined together. When the Congo was formed it started from Brazil where the actual gold deposits were present. But after the continental drift Brazil separated from Africa.

Fossil congruency

Similar to Mineral Congruency , Fossil Congruency has also been observed in many parts of the world.

For example the fossils of a dinosaur T-Rex is only found in the peninsular India and the upper part of Australia. This proves that Australia was once a part of peninsular India and after continental drift they both separated.

Paleomagnetism

This is the most scientific phenomena which actually proves that the continental drift theory was true. As we know there is an imaginary magnetic Axis which is inclined at 10 degrees with Earth's rotational axis of the earth. All the natural magnets of the earth are inclined with respect to this axis. Even if a magnet is suspended in air , it automatically will align itself with the magnetic axis of the earth.

Due to the continental drift all the continents of the Earth were disturbed from their original position except Eurasia (Europe + Asia). The alignment of magnets of all the continents was also disturbed and it was observed that the alignment of magnets of Eurasian plate was undisturbed. This proves that all the continents of the world were disturbed from their original position due to the continental drift except Eurasia.

These are the few factors which prove that the theory of continental drift is correct and the things said by Alfred wegener were true.
