Situation of Broadband in India

Government of India has recently launched the programme to set 90000 km of Optical Fibre Cables (OFC) all over the India. It will make way for 68000 villages to connect to high speed internet. But according to the survey by technical research firm "ovum", India is on 24th rank all over the world in the ranking of countries with best Broadband Internet experiences.


The first position of this ranking of top 30 countries is with Sweden and the last one is with Mistr. Mistr has 30% , India has 44% and Sweden has 88% of votes.

What is the minimum downloading speed ?

The peoples included in this survey believe that for a good Broadband experience the waiting time should be less than 3 seconds. This means that the lowest downloading speed must be of 10 mbps. The Telecom regulatory Authority of India ( TRAI ) has decided the minimum speed of 512 kbps where as in America the decide minimum speed is 25 mbps. In India , Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited ( BSNL ) has decide to increase the minimum speed by 300% which will be around 2 mbps.

What is the medium of maximum Internet Usage ?

75% of all the peoples in the world aging between 16 to 24 years use Broadband on laptop , computer or mobile phone. Peoples of age more than 55% depend on computers for their Internet usage. Only 50%
peoples of this age group use Broadband for mobile phones.
